Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
