Automobiles in German City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a resident who noticed a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for details.

A high-ranking official stated the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
